One of the most convenient aspects of a VLE/LMS is that everything is in one place. To make your PLE easy to use, you need some glue to stick all the parts together. There are lots of ways you can do this, and the choice is yours. You could use a blog on Wordpress or Blogger as a sort of notepad to jot down your thoughts and store links and information (Why Blog?, Blogs in Plain English), or you could use an online office suite (we'll come to these shortly), but for maximum convenience and flexibility, you could also consider setting up a wiki. What's a wiki and why would I want one? A wiki is a website that allows users to easily create, edit and link pages (Wikis in Plain English). Wikis are often used to create collaborative websites and for knowledge management, so it's ideally suited for gluing your PLE together. Wikis can be individual (private) or collaborative, which is a potentially much more powerful way of sharing and managing knowledge. As an illustration, I've set up a: wiki for this tutorial on WetPaint (WetPaint Wikis in Plain English). WetPaint has a particularly powerful set of features, and the best way to find out about them is to visit the site. A good alternative to WetPaint is WikiSpaces.
