Google Docs is a free, online word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation environment (Video: Google Docs in Plain English). Documents, spreadsheets and presentations can be created within the application itself, imported, or sent via email. By default, documents are saved to Google's servers, but can also be saved to the user's computer in a variety of formats. If you wish, documents can be shared, opened, and edited by multiple users at the same time.

Zoho Office Suite is another free online office suite which includes tools for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, databases, note-taking, wikis, web conferences and other applications.

Alternative document sharing sites include:

  • ThinkFree: another online office suite.
  • SlideShare: which allows you to share PowerPoint presentations and narrated slidecasts like this one.
  • Scribd: online document sharing site.

and yes, they're all free.    Who needs Microsoft?
